UPDATED, BUT STILL HISTORIC LOOK: This old Victorian fireplace was beautiful in its prime, but 100+ years of wear and tear has left the historic tile cracked and loose.  One of the previous owners even painted the surround white to update the look, but I wanted to take it a little further.  Homeowners were originally leaning toward a regular 12×12 beige ceramic tile to brighten up the area, but finally chose a slate tile because the original roof on this home was slate.  This way, the look will be freshened up, but it will still pay homage to the historic nature of the 1904 home.  The upper mosaic tile is called Elegenza Noble Black Arabesque by Mohawk (available at www.Menards.com), and the hearth is a matching 6×16 slate.  After a fresh coat of gloss black paint, the insert was installed, along with the mantle.  The new look is fantastic!  419-212-3200
