CRUMBLING CONCRETE IS BAAAAD!  This original concrete porch entry way was in rough shape, and, frankly, a hazzard – so it was time to go!  After about an hour with the jackhammer, it was history, and I stood before a clean slate upon which to practice my craft.  A much-improved 48″ x 48″ composite deck with single step and white vinyl handrail was the ultimate goal.  No need to bury the posts in the ground as there was already a concrete footer present.  I raised the new deck to just about one inch below the threshold of the storm door to make for a clean, smooth transition in and out of the house (homeowner loved it)!  Decking material is #UltraDeck Rustic Composite (gray), which provides superior durability against splintering, cracking, rotting, and insects.  It has a nice embossed woodgrain texture and features a 10 year residential warranty.  UltraDeck requires a minumum 16″ OCS for structural support, but I did one better by placing the joists 12″ OCS for a more beefy feel.  The white vinyl handrail is a premium product from QuickRail ( #Fypon ) and carries a lifetime residential warranty.  The best part is that this entire porch will require no more maintenance other than an occasional pressure washing.  Throw away that paint brush!  Give me a shout if I can help improve your porch or deck: 419-212-3200.
