COZY COTTAGE LOOK! I always install premium TimberCrest vinyl siding for many reasons. Although it is a bit pricier ($90 per square vs. $50 per square – $120 for darker color options), I prefer it because you honestly get what you pay for. Features of TIMBERCREST PREMIUM VINYL SIDING include a wider variety of deeper color choices (this particular color is CHARCOAL), extra thickness (.046″) to repel hail and other objects, heavy duty nailing strip, larger butt (for extra depth appeal), steel starter (as opposed to vinyl), a 216 MPH wind rating (versus 160 MPH), and a LIFETIME WARRANTY (along with a 25 year fade warranty). You really can’t beat the quality of this product. For this particular home, I opted to go right over the existing siding, which was a manufactured wood product. It was solid and basically uniform, except for along the bottom edges where a bit of water damage had occurred. Otherwise, a tight housewrap seal was applied all around the home to help with waterproofing and eliminate any pesky drafts. For a more elegant look, I widened and built out all window and door trim with 2×4 lumber, followed up with a high-quality professional aluminum coil trim wrap. It really accents the dark gray color well! For the siding installation, I used 3″ galvanized nails (rather than 2″) to be able to reach through the existing 1/2″ siding, 1/2″ foamboard, and 1/2″ OSB, to get a good grip into the wall studs below. Finally, I decided to accent the darker color even more by using white corner posts. The new look is tight! Give me a shout if I can help bring your remodel vision into reality – 419-212-3200.
