TOTAL REMODEL – I come across a lot of these old cast iron bathtubs in the older homes that I remodel. This homeowner thought that her tub could not be removed and that we would have to remodel around it. Not the case! They are difficult to remove, but with a little elbow grease, it is entirely possible. It’s always best to go with a new fiberglass/acrylic tub (with a sturdy mortar bed) and a top quality nail-to-stud surround if possible. In addition to the tub replacement, we removed a couple built-in cabinets to create more space. A little pine wainscot trim really spices up the look while at the same time hiding any minor wall imperfections. The rest of the exposed walls were skim coated and sanded down for the homeowner to paint. Other improvements include a new vanity with quartz top (moved slightly away from the tub to create more space), mirror, vanity light, high-powered exhaust fan, and three custom-built floating shelves. On a side note, the homeowner decided to leave exposed an old brick chimney that we discovered in the demolition phase – looks great! The final improvement was new vinyl plank flooring to complete the look. Awesome! Doesn’t matter how old or too-far-gone you think your bathroom may be, I will make it great again!
