MADE IN THE SHADE – This homeowner had purchased the composite materials to construct this deck 15 months ago, but never got around to it. I purchased new treated structural lumber and concrete to complete the job. All posts are buried below frostline and are never spaced more than 8′ apart. Composite deck boards can be a little more flimsy than thick treated wood, so I like to install the joists at 12″ on center spacing. This adds only minimal cost and time, while really creating a sturdy deck surface. Fasteners are hidden and clip into the grooves on the side of each deck board, creating a uniform and clean surface look. Cladding boards were in somewhat rough shape since they had been uncovered for the last few months, but it’s nothing a good power washing won’t handle. We finished off the look with FYPON QUICKRAIL Premium Synthetic rail and post kits. The majority of our post sleeves are installed over solid wood 4×4 posts to provide more strength.
